National athlete and our Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences student Mehmet Kani Polat, who represented our university in the European Universities Taekwondo Championship held in Zagreb, Croatia, won the gold medal. By defeating Croatian rival Vasilije Peruncic from the University Donja Gorica 2-0 in the final match, Mehmet Kani retained his title as the champion.
Mehmet Kani had attended the first European championship in our university's history held in Poland last year and held the gold medal, so once again he made us feel this joy. Moreover, he won gold medals in the Turkish Universities Championships, where he participated on behalf of Sabancı University in the past two seasons.
In the same category, he also won the 2023 Senior Turkish Championship, and he will compete on behalf of Turkey in the University Olympics to be held in China next week.
